I had the good fortune to go to WA DC this summer and drive past the education dept. They had large bright red barn things over all the entrances reading, "no child left behind". What else could they have done with the money it cost them to build those useless structures?

Unfortunately, in America, our politicians enjoy driving wedges between parties and between people in order to create more dramtaic races. Liberals and Conservatives are so afraid of being percieved too much like the other that they create issues to separate themselves. Unfortunately, education is one of those things that everyone agrees needs help, and is therefore the favorite target of presidents seeking broad bi-partisan support. On the surface, NCLB looks like an instant cure for current Public Ed. Who does want someone to be 'held acountable' for the performance of our schools? I'd be hard pressed to find someone who would say they think our schools don't need improvement. When it was originally proposed, few people realized the problems that it would ultimately create (being an unfunded mandate and all), and instead rallied around it because we could all agree that education needed help. We are so sick of fighting each other that we are quick to jump on (at last) a unifying issue.
Hopefully, after the shameful showing of NCLB in practice in our schools, our legislators, our representatives, our teachers, our fellow citizens, and we, ourselves, will be more careful to recognize when politicians are just looking for agreement instead of a solution.

Please share our determination to make our public schools meaningful centers for learning and teaching and read the words of thousands of citizens who have already voiced their dedication to stopping the destructive forces of NCLB.

No Child Left Behind should not strip schools of money when they are failing. Eliminating teachers, cutting corners, increasing class sizes will certainly not increase the quality of a school.
